Beat-Hoven – My first track

My first attempt at making a track, which I have titled “Beat-Hoven” (since it’s a riff on Fur Elise). I figured I’d take a tune I already know and add a beat to it. The end seems a bit anticlimactic however. Still learning how to achieve the sounds I want.

Beat-Hoven’s Third

The third iteration of my riff on Beethoven’s Fur Elise, titled Beat-Hoven’s Third (how original!). Still learning, but I’m slightly happier with this version, even though it came out a bit heavier than I was planning.

Generic Dubstep II

The experimenting continues with Generic Dubstep II. I’ll try not to keep posting these every day.

This time I tried experimenting with some envelopes and speech samples thrown in the mix. I feel I need to vary the melody and bass line a bit more however, with two or three alternative harmonies so I can make the track longer using variation without it becoming repetitive.

I may have over-done it a little on the bass wobble. I’d hate to think what this one would feel like through a decent subwoofer.

Cyclone Pam Liveblog – Final Update

Better late than never, but here is the final update!

Auckland got off pretty lightly, with windows only reaching a peak of 60kph and moderate amounts of rain. The East Coast of the North Island experienced stronger winds, and there were some evacuations due to flooding and slips, but overall we dodged a bullet with that one.

As promised, here is a time-lapse video covering the 28 hours of Cyclone Pam:
